Advantage Engineers is developing a 3-Dimensional electrical building information model and coordinating the model with other engineering discipline models for a residential apartment development in Arlington, Virginia. Advantage is using building information modeling (BIM) to generate and manage a digital representation of the site, including physical and functional characteristics. The 3-D electrical BIM model supports the developer’s decision-making process through the planning, design and construction phases of the project.
Advantage will provide a clash-free model with annotations to the General Contractor and Electrical General Corporation for distribution to field personnel for installation. Based on the Foreman’s hand markings, Advantage will use this information to produce bus ducts, conduits, lights, an inslab conduit layout, electrical switchgears and panels with annotations for field use. Advantage’s plumbing tasks in the model include the entire building vent, sanitary, cold and hot water, storm and sewer systems, ground grid and an underground system. Advantage’s mechanical modeling includes HVAC equipment, ducts, ground and air source heat pumps, Air Handling Units (AHU) and refrigerant pipes. Advantage is producing the virtual construction project using AutoCAD MEP, Revit and Navisworks Manage programs.
