Advantage Engineers provided construction observation and materials testing services for the renovation and construction of four buildings for the Hempfield School District in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The District’s buildings, including the new construction of Landisville Intermediate Center and East Petersburg Elementary School, were estimated to cost more than $17 million each. The District approved construction of the new educational institutions as a cost-saving measure when compared to the costs of renovating existing facilities. Upon completion, the District planned to demolish the old structures. Development of the School District also included additions to Farmdale Elementary School.
Our construction observation services included full-time, on-site engineering review and oversite as well as laboratory sampling and testing of construction materials for conformance with the project specifications. Advantage’s engineering staff and field technicians provided complete oversite and on-site testing and monitoring of all excavation and structural fill placement as well as completed inspections of the foundation subgrade for compliance with bearing capacity and monitoring of preparations for concrete including sub-base, base coarse, vapor barriers, reinforcing steel and formwork. The Advantage team conducted a laboratory sampling and testing program for all cast-in-place concrete and masonry activities as well as subgrade and sub-base for all utility installation, construction of storm drainage features and asphalt roadways including parking areas on the subject properties.
