Advantage Engineers provided engineering project management services for the installation of 44 new Microcell sites at each platform of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) Market-Frankford and Broad Street subway lines in Philadelphia, PA. The installation of the new Micorcell sitees enables communication networks to continue service coverage underground.
Advantage completed the design of two separate networks for two leading major wireless carriers. While working directly with SEPTA to minimize impact on their operations, the sites were designed to locate the equipment in an inconspicuous area of the platform. The networks now provide coverage so that customers can initiate a phone call at street level and continue the call through their entire subway ride.
Advantage Engineers’ scope of work included the following:
- Site audits
- Site assessments
- Engineering design
- Ethernet backhaul design and management
- Electric service upgrade with transformer additions
- Radio frequency (RF) design assistance and antenna placement approvals
- Construction management
