Advantage Engineers conducted an analysis of a 130’tall self support tower located in Cape May, New Jersey in order to add panel antennas and equipment for a new wireless carrier. The tower supported equipment for Cape May Township, and two additional wireless carriers. Upon analysis, Advantage determined that the existing tower members and foundation had inadequate structural capacity for supporting the proposed installation.
Advantage designed and provided tower modification drawings to bring the tower into compliance with all applicable codes and standards. Tower reinforcements consisted of replacement of diagonal bracing members and secondary horizontals to brace the existing tower legs. In addition, welds and V-bolts were used to attach structural steel angles to the existing tower legs. Advantage designed helical anchors, steel connection brackets, and specified adhesive anchor connections to increase the overturning movement capacity of the tower foundation.
