Advantage Engineers designed and provided construction drawings for a stealth screen wall and concealment for wireless panel antennas on the roof of a residential building located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The existing building is constructed of reinforced concrete roof and floor slabs, supported by concrete columns. The screen wall was integrated into the design of a steel rooftop platform for supporting a 35,000 lb equipment shelter. The proposed screen wall was constructed from a combination of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) members and structural members. Sections of the wall were designed using FRP members. This allows the RF signal to pass through the wall without interference. Sections that do not support antennas are designed using structural steel members.
Advantage analyzed the two-way roof slab and reinforced concrete columns and screen wall to ensure that the building could adequately support the proposed installation.
