On a Friday afternoon in late January 2020, a client’s cell site was damaged due to a fire in a storage facility in Beesleys Point, NJ. The flames damaged the client’s equipment and hybrid cables that were in a 2nd floor unit, taking the site down completely. Our client trusted Advantage Engineers to get the site up and running using Cell on Wheels (COW).

Our team assessed the situation and immediately produced a plan to get the site back on air. The client decided they could not wait until the following week, so Advantage coordinated efforts to get the project in motion over the weekend, enlisting a tower crew, finding materials needed including 180’ hybrid cables, and arranging for a COW to be delivered on Saturday morning. We ensured an electrician could be on site and met with them to accept delivery of the asset to have it placed appropriately for the temporary deployment. Power was removed from the building and installed in a temporary fashion to power up the COW. There were many other details that had to be coordinated including the fiber backhaul rerouting and repair. By 4:30 p.m. the following Monday, the site was officially back in service.

Our team has deployed many special events for this client, so they know to call Advantage if they are ever in a crunch. The success of getting this temporary site up and running in 3 days a testament to our team, our client’s trust in us, and the relationships we have built with the vendors involved.

Advantage Engineers quickly deployed a temporary site for a national carrier after a fire took it off air.

  • Quickly and efficiently got the clients site up and running using Cell on Wheels (COW) after a fire.

Advantage Team assists with the design and construction of DAS at a major sports venue

A new DAS by a national carrier met the demands of fans at a Philadelphia stadium. Advantage and Intenna Systems collaborated to bring the new and existing infrastructure together with no loss of service.

The system required redesign and relocation of existing wireless infrastructure in addition to the design and installation of the new equipment.

Advantage Engineers performed comprehensive survey and design services for the fiber and cables for the installation as well as construction drawings and project and construction management. We also worked closely with Intenna Systems, a provider and systems integrator for DAS networks. They designed the DAS fiber, power boosters, antennas and supplied the labor and expertise for a passive DAS system for additional carriers to access the network. Advantage converted their schematic designs into working construction drawings.

The system required the installation of a new Macro Cell inside of the stadium, along with the relocation of the existing cell, expansion of the physical footprint, and installation of Ethernet Backhaul, fiber, and new antennas inside Stealth enclosures.

  • Relocated existing cell without interrupting operations
  • Upgraded existing CDMA system with 4G LTE
  • Upgraded power for carrier
  • Designed and Installed Ethernet Backhaul
  • Integrated wireless system into stadium back-up power generator

A national wireless carrier reached out for assistance in improving DAS service for the Grand Opening of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

A national wireless carrier reached out for assistance in improving DAS service for the Grand Opening of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, which was taking place the following day. We responded quickly, and after a 13-hour day of breaking down and repurposing equipment from the former casino’s network, we were able to greatly improve voice service as well as data coverage leveraging the old PCS donor service.

As our team was leaving that same night, we received another call from the customer requesting a temporary deployment to be up and running in the Hard Rock Live Arena for the Carrie Underwood concert the following evening. Utilizing equipment from a COLT (Cell On Light Truck) that was deployed but not yet on the air, we were able to find the needed RRHs, power and fiber cables.  Working  with our union electrician, we were able to get power from the building to the asset and wire up the RRHs to run Coax inside Hard Rock Live to the antennas on the catwalk for service.

The site required fiber backhaul, and our team figured out a way to use fiber running along the boardwalk to patch into a standby circuit that the carrier had in place for another performance hall and get service up and running in time for the concert.

  • The Advantage team used the property’s old legacy system to establish new and improved voice and data services.
  • Quickly mobilized the resources, contractors, and materials needed to get the job done.
  • Showed creative problem solving for a complex site to deliver what the client needed.
  • Temporarily deployed a network on a day’s notice, completing the project in time for the concert.
