Advantage's Fiber Team Designs Fiber Install Along Challenging Rail Route
We provided survey and fiber design services to a major carrier looking to improve backhaul connectivity through the Baltimore Metropolitan Area.
Advantage Engineers provided engineering services for the installation of over 100 fiber optic laterals providing backhaul connectivity to a major wireless carrier’s communications facilities throughout the Baltimore Metro Area. Upon completion of the field survey work, construction documents were produced for use in the permitting and construction of the fiber optic laterals.
Designing a ROW installation can be complex because many other utilties are vying for the same space. The nature of a railway ROW adds another layer of safety and security concerns. Additionally, the railway operation has multiple departmental review process (Engineering, Real Estate, Safety, Operations, etc.) that requires a sophisticated approach to meet a requirement (defined and implied).
Safety is the highest priority for Advantage so our safety plan easily passed the railway operator's stringent assessment. Moreover, each member of the survey crew passed their thorough security checks and required safety training. Advantage's high-level project coordination, tracking and communication concurrent activities, allowed for the successful and timely completion of a long lead-time process.
