Timonium Rooftop Evaluation

Advantage Engineers evaluated the structural capacity of a Timonium, Maryland building for a proposed steel platform and telecommunications equipment shelter on the rooftop, and proposed antennas on the existing penthouse walls. Structural personnel were onsite to take measurements and obtain original building drawings to be used in the design and analysis.

A steel platform supporting an equipment shelter was designed to tie into the steel beams and support the building’s rooftop structure. The platform was designed according to the provisions of IBC 2012, including ASCE 7-10 and AISC 360-10. When subjected to code-specified loading combinations, the steel beams and columns were found to be stressed to maximums of 90.10% and 97.66% of capacity, respectively.
